Summary
The Director of Curriculum & Instruction (DCI) is responsible for the ongoing development, implementation, and evaluation of all aspects of the educational program related to the curriculum and instruction for General Studies (Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, Executive Functioning, etc) in the Lower School, Kindergarten to 5th grade. As part of the administrative leadership team, the DCI plays a central role in the success of the lower school.
Responsibilities-
- Ensure high-quality curricular and instructional design that meets Florida’s educational standards.
- Collaborate with grade teams to analyze testing data and evaluate curricula effectiveness.
- Meet regularly with K-5 teachers to clarify and enhance curriculum implementation.
- Observe and coach teachers to improve instructional practices aligned with the school’s vision.
- Help create high-performing teams and organize meetings for effective curriculum integration across grade levels.
- Set high expectations for planning and implementation, coordinating weekly department meetings to incorporate feedback and improve the educational program.
- Assist in the teacher evaluation process and support teachers in developing professional growth plans.
- Train staff on curriculum and research educational trends to recommend improvements.
- Facilitate the selection and orientation of new staff, setting expectations and providing support during the onboarding process.
- Monitor the selection of textbooks and recommend necessary resources with teacher input.
- Establish relationships with vendors for efficient resource management.
- Assist in developing policies and administrative procedures related to curriculum.
- Provide input for the school’s strategic plan and communicate expectations to support student progress.
- Promote a positive learning environment, building strong relationships with colleagues and collaborating on a cohesive curricular vision.
Qualifications and Abilities
- Minimum of a Master’s Degree in education/related field
- At least 2 years in an administrative role in a K-5 school environment
- Understands curriculum, its development, and its relationship to the school’s goal and vision
- Can lead a group of professionals in achieving goals
- Leverages successful teaching experience for effective systems to implement high-quality curriculum and instruction
- Maintains a high level of energy, passion, and productivity and models high standards for others
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
- Proficiency in Microsoft products & Google apps for education and other education-related systems
